BEACH CLEAN & GIG: Servo Food Truck Bar, Port Kembla NSW
Sunday 4th April saw an amazing collaboration of community, causes and brilliant music in Port Kembla, NSW. Fair Food Forager hosted the second event in the #cleanthecoast tour of Earth Bottles with Ash Grunwald at the Servo Food Truck Bar at a sold out, family friendly event.
An epic beach clean of Port Kembla at Red Point kicked off the start of a beautiful day. The beach clean was a huge success, with 55 people in attendance including Ash Grunwald and family. Over 300kgs of plastic was collected! Which is both heartening and devastating - a big thank you from all of us here on planet earth to every person who collected waste plastics for recycling and a big wake up call to all those who carelessly consume and throw away this volatile resource.
As the sun sank lower into the sky we headed in to 'the Servo', as it is affectionately known, an up and coming music venue hosting a range of local and international acts as well as some tasty local beverages and brews.
Ash took to the stage around 3pm and sang from his Soul for hours! He rocked the joint with his sweet guitar and bluesy, soulful tunes. There was dancing, throwing of small toys and smiles, hugs and laughter all around. Ash commented on what a beautiful community we have here on the Soutg Coast and everyone in the room beamed knowingly. There is something powerful about getting everyone together under one funky roof to express themselves joyfully and share in this worthy cause.
The overarching message of the day was that we MUST throw ourselves into reducing plastics and protecting our planet for future generations. We can and will make a difference!
The tour will continue down the coast of Australia. Catch the wave!
