GETTING TO KNOW ME
I am: Creative, Visual, Versatile
Hi guys,
Since we get asked to do this sort of thing all the time at Uni, I'm just going to cut to the chase & make a webpage introducing myself!
I'm Jessica Millman. I'm an ideas person! My background is in creative arts (I have an Advanced Dip in Fine Arts majoring in Photography) and training and communications. I'm passionate about my community, supporting artists and about encouraging new ideas and innovation... Hence my enthusiasm for being involved in the iC group! I have had the pleasure of using the digital media centre @ iC and the facilities are TOP NOTCH! The whole campus has a certain vibe about it and seems to nurture feelings of 'going somewhere!!!'
My main skill is in making blogs. I can show you one I worked on with a few other people in this subject (it’s currently a private site) and then a list of about 10 other blogs/sites I have made using various software. I am thinking it will be valuable for us to have a Google site or similar to contribute to – each with a profile page introducing ourselves (as if to a client) etc. Maybe we can discuss that in our first meeting?
Suggested pages to include in the site:

MISSION STATEMENT

Currently studying: BCMS majoring in Digital Media & Communications (3rd yr)
I am also involved in the Peer-2-Peer mentoring program (as a mentor) and will start an Arts Internship with ITC Marketing (on campus) next week.
WORK HISTORY
I've worked in IT but found it a bit repetitive. What I am passionate about is COMMUNICATIONS. I like to use IT for collaborative purposes and, especially because I don't like going over things I've done before, I like creating blogs. I use my blogs as a repository for my ideas and to share interesting/relevant/helpful information with others.
One of the most rewarding jobs I've ever had was as the Co-ordinator of the Wilderness Society shop in Wollongong. The position involved writing a procedure manual, editing outgoing correspondence, training volunteers, liaison with a range of stakeholders, resource management and running meetings for campaign sessions.
Speaking of meetings...
MEETINGS
Could we please make sure we have an agenda for every meeting as we're all busy people I'm sure and need to have a clear purpose to what we will be covering in that half hour before class?
GROUP WORK
I believe in everyone having a voice in any group situation as everyone has something great to contribute.
I believe STRONGLY in using Google Docs! If we keep contributing quality information to a Google Doc/site we will inevitably end up with material we can use in our finished product!
REQUEST!!!!
I use Microsoft XP and Office 2003 at home which means I cannot read files that are saved in the new .docx format. If you guys are using the new version could you pls retrosave it for me? You just go File> save as then select the version that can be read by Word 97-2003 Document (*.doc). Or we could just use Google Docs! Even better!
I would really appreciate it!
THANK YOU!!!
P.S I'm really looking forward to working with you guys! Some of the most interesting subjects I've done at Uni have been in DIGC and I think we have assembled an interesting, very talented and dynamic group for DIGC302.
